Red-eared slider
The red-eared slider (Trachemys scripta elegans) is a reptile which lives in the mangrove of the Oceanogràfic aviary, its size not exceeding 30 centimetres and living at shallow depths.
Where to find them?
In the Wetlands habitat of the aquarium.
General aspects
Males are usually smaller than females and have longer claws and a larger tail.
In youth, these reptiles are mainly carnivorous, while as they become adults, their diet becomes herbivorous.
Did you know...?
It is an invasive species which threatens the survival of indigenous species. Note the colour of its “ears”. They are red!
